Pedro Pascal, after a long period of obscurity, has become one of the busiest actors in Hollywood. He now stars in three major Hollywood franchises. With 'The Last of Us' season 2 currently in production, and 'Fantastic Four' slated for release in 2025, and 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' in 2026, we're going to be seeing a lot more of him on the big screen and on our iPads.
One of the most common descriptors attached to Pedro Pascal these days is 'the hottest single dad in the world.' He seems to adopt a child in almost every project he takes on. He's mastered raising human children in superhero and post-apocalyptic worlds, and even tackled alien baby care in space. Here are the movies and series that have solidified his status as Hollywood's most famous father figure.
Game of Thrones Season 4
His rise to prominence in Hollywood began in 2014 with his appearance in Game of Thrones season 4. His portrayal of Prince Oberyn Martell of Dorne, while not a major character, is remembered as one of the most impactful in the series. His vengeful nature and incredibly brutal death caused a collective gasp from viewers.
Although never shown onscreen, Oberyn has numerous daughters. In season 4, there's a scene where Oberyn writes a letter expressing his longing for his daughters, and the female characters introduced from season 5 onwards are all daughters of Oberyn Martell. While the fact that Oberyn was a father to many daughters wasn't a significant focus during the airing of Game of Thrones season 4, looking back, it's clear that he was already a dad 10 years ago.
The Mandalorian Seasons 1-3, The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026)
Pedro Pascal truly began his journey as a dedicated dad actor in 2019 with the Disney+ original series 'The Mandalorian'. He's tasked with tracking down an alien with a hefty bounty on its head, only to discover it's a tiny baby named 'Grogu,' and he decides to protect the child. He must defend the little one from the remnants of the evil Galactic Empire that seek to exploit the child, as well as prevent Grogu from getting into trouble by consuming strange objects.
The Mandalorian and Grogu immediately captured the hearts of Star Wars fans upon their debut. The taciturn yet surprisingly skilled father figure, The Mandalorian, and the adorable green baby, Grogu, brought a unique charm that had never been seen before in the Star Wars universe. Driven by immense popularity, Disney has embarked on the production of 'The Mandalorian and Grogu,' a film slated for release in 2026.
Wonder Woman 1984
Pedro Pascal takes on the role of a single dad once again in the second Wonder Woman film. The character he portrays, Maxwell Lord, is a greedy businessman and con artist, yet also a man who desires to be a good and proud father to his son. His sly demeanor, often repeating the phrase 'Life is Good, But it can be Better!', left a lasting impression on viewers.
He represents the prosperity and greed of American society in the 1980s. Maxwell Lord obtains a mystical artifact that grants wishes, and he merges with it, ultimately driving the entire world towards a capitalist dystopia. He rises to become a highly successful businessman but, in the process, grows distant from his precious son.
The Last of Us
This series is based on the video game 'The Last of Us' and is an HBO production. Pedro Pascal once again portrays a single dad who finds himself unexpectedly caring for a child, Joel Miller. In the world depicted in the series, a mysterious plague breaks out in 2013. Those infected often transform into terrifying monsters, and Joel Miller's daughter is killed by soldiers amidst the chaos.
Joel Miller, who makes a living smuggling goods in the Boston Quarantine Zone, receives a request to transport a young girl beyond the zone's boundaries. He embarks on a journey with Ellie (Bella Ramsey), a girl who reminds him of his deceased daughter, and accepts her into his family.
The Last of Us season 2 is currently in production. Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie, also appeared in Game of Thrones.
Fantastic Four
Reed Richards is also a father. Surprisingly, in this instance, he's neither a single dad, nor has he adopted a child, nor is he in a pseudo-father-daughter relationship. In the original Fantastic Four comic book, Reed Richards and Sue Storm have two children. Whether or not these children will appear in the 2025 release of 'Fantastic Four' is unknown, but given the nature of the Marvel Universe, it seems inevitable that they will eventually be introduced.
Interestingly, Pedro Pascal is not a father in real life. And he has no plans to become one in the future.
