The Mandalorian Season 2 Still
A new Star Wars movie, ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu,’ will begin filming in June of this year and be released in 2026. Originally, The Mandalorian and Grogu were the main characters of the Disney+ original series ‘The Mandalorian.’ Disney has confirmed the production of a film featuring them, capitalizing on the series’ popularity.
Lead actor Pedro Pascal will reprise his role as ‘Din Djarin,’ often referred to as ‘The Mandalorian.’ Jon Favreau, who was the executive producer of the Mandalorian TV series, will direct the film. Jon Favreau also directed Iron Man (2008), which marked the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Mandalorian is considered a series that lowered the barrier to entry for the Star Wars franchise. While sharing the same universe, the protagonist is unaware of, and frankly unconcerned with, the events of the 11 films. Instead, he encounters a cute green baby and experiences various adventures while growing alongside it. The adorable alien baby and the taciturn but kind bounty hunter have become iconic characters within the Star Wars universe.
The specific plot of the film remains undisclosed. However, the Mandalorian Season 3, which was released in the first half of last year, offers some hints.
In the final episode of Season 3, Din Djarin officially adopted Grogu as his son. Having officially become a Mandalorian, Din Djarin embarked on an adventure with Grogu to train him. To support his son, Din Djarin proposes to the newly established Galactic government, the ‘Galactic Republic,’ that he will hunt down remnants of the Galactic Empire in exchange for a reward.
Therefore, the film might focus on The Mandalorian and Grogu tracking down remnants of the Galactic Empire. However, Disney has also announced that production is underway for The Mandalorian Season 4. Whether this storyline will continue in the series or the film remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, another Star Wars film starring Daisy Ridley is also in the works. It’s a sequel to ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,’ released in 2019, and will feature the return of Rey, the main character from the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
