Marvel's first release of 2024 is the Disney+ original series 'Echo' (2024). Echo (2024) is a series featuring 'Maya Lopez' (Alaqua Cox), who appeared as a villain in 'Hawkeye' (2021), as the main character. Maya has lived as a subordinate to New York's underworld kingpin 'Wilson Fisk', but learns that Fisk is responsible for the death of her father. Maya sets out on a journey to avenge Fisk.**

Marvel, which has struggled to recover from its slump last year, has slightly adjusted its strategy this year. First, Marvel Disney+ series will be released under the title 'Marvel Spotlight'. Marvel Spotlight connects to other Marvel films, but aims to not require viewing of other works. This seems to be an attempt to overcome the increased entry barrier to Marvel films due to the Disney+ series released in the past few years.

Therefore, you don't have to watch any other Marvel movies or series to watch Echo. And you don't need to watch Echo to watch other Marvel movies. However, it will be more enjoyable if you know other works, as is the case with Marvel works. One of the great pleasures of Marvel is 'It's good to see you again'.

Hawkeye (2021)

A Disney+ original series starring Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner), aka 'Hawkeye', a founding member of the Avengers. Clint comes to New York with his children for the holidays, and finds a college student, 'Kate Bishop' (Hailee Steinfeld), pretending to be Hawkeye being chased by someone and helps her. The one chasing her is the 'Tracksuit Mafia', a group of local delinquents. Clint is going to help Kate and quickly go back home to his family waiting for him.

However, things get worse. Clint, who lost most of his hearing while fighting Thanos, breaks his hearing aid while fighting the mafia. Moreover, 'Maya Lopez' (Alaqua Cox), the leader of the Tracksuit Mafia, who Clint thought was just a local delinquent, is a master of martial arts. She leaves Clint, who has lost his hearing, a relaxed advice to open up a new way.

Clint, briefly escaping Maya and the Tracksuit Mafia, is now tormented by his past. To make matters worse, it is revealed that 'Wilson Fisk' (Vincent D'Onofrio), the kingpin of the New York underworld, is behind the Tracksuit Mafia, and the two Hawkeyes have to deal with both threats. And Clint has to get home by Christmas as promised to his kids.

This 6-part series received a positive response for its charming portrayal of the new Hawkeye, 'Kate Bishop'. The story of Maya Lopez and Wilson Fisk introduced in this series is set to continue in the series 'Echo'. Kate Bishop is slated to join 'Young Avengers', which Marvel will soon be producing.

Daredevil (2015~2018)

A Marvel drama released as a Netflix original series from 2015 to 2018. It is a representative work of the early Netflix original series. 'Matt Murdock' (Charlie Cox), who was exposed to radioactive waste as a child, lost his sight but all his other senses became extremely sensitive. Using this ability, he works as a lawyer by day and as the superhero 'Daredevil' by night.

Matt Murdock, while chasing the mafia at night, discovers that businessman 'Wilson Fisk' is plotting something. He uses his position as a lawyer and his identity as Daredevil to bring down Wilson Fisk, who exploits loopholes in the law to get away. Eventually, Wilson Fisk's conspiracy is exposed to the world, and Fisk is imprisoned. However, Fisk plans to take revenge on Matt Murdock and Daredevil from prison and regain his criminal empire.

This series was produced in the days when Marvel collaborated with Netflix, before Disney+ was created. As such, the violence level is quite high, as befits a Netflix original. However, many viewers were thrilled by Daredevil's 'R-rated action'. Daredevil, who has no special abilities other than his enhanced senses, takes a beating and gets stabbed while fighting, adding tension to the drama.

'Echo', which will be released in 2024, pursues this Netflix-era style. In particular, Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, who appeared in the Daredevil series, will reappear in Echo, foreshadowing another showdown. Due to the expiration of the contract with Netflix, all seasons of Daredevil, from 1 to 3, can be viewed on Disney+.
